Obama’s Vogue Encore?
(NEW YORK) It’s not surprising that in the current heated fashion book ad derby (InStyle, Vogue, and Elle are currently leading all other sartorial titles---in that order---this year), the editors are trying to pull out all the stops to liven up newsstand and media interest. The Daily has heard buzz that Vogue is planning to close out the year in a robust way by putting Michelle Obama on the cover for its December issue, in favor of some of some Oscar-dreaming starlets who kick off their award campaigns with holiday covers.
This will mark the second appearance by the First Lady on the magazine’s cover. Her Vogue March 2009 photo shoot, captured by Annie Leibovitz, was her first for a mainstream publication and covers for People, O, Essence, Ebony, and Glamour followed. That issue of the Anna Wintour-helmed magazine sold 560,000 copies on the newsstand, making it the best-selling edition of the publication in recent history.

UPDATE, 6/4/10: According to a Vogue spokesperson, the magazine has no immediate plans to feature the First Lady on its cover---although Vogue remains a "huge fan" of Mrs. Obama.
