Secrets of the Chanel Jacket

Comments | | Print

(NEW YORK) Everyone loves a juicy secret, and now through October 19, the second floor at Bergdorf Goodman will feature "Secrets of the Chanel Jacket," an installation of archive jackets, handbags and accessories. The exhibit tells the story of Mademoiselle Chanel’s iconic creations, outlining the label's evolution from fluid jersey designs, to tweed and button and gold chain detailing, and finally into the current-day designs of Karl Lagerfeld. The installation aims to unpack the history behind the Chanel label, drawing connections between the earlier concepts of Coco Chanel and how Lagerfeld has expanded on these notions while still harkening to the past and preserving the integrity of the Chanel name.

The exhibit at Bergdorf also includes photos of Coco Chanel, Vanessa Paradis, Romy Schneider, Anna Mouglalis and Barbie wearing the Chanel jacket, in addition to archive selections of shoes and handbags, including elements from Coco Chanel’s personal collection. Visitors can view the original 1957 two toned slingback heel in beige and black on display. Also through October 19, three of the department store’s illustrious windows will house a Chanel tribute with oversized iconic items like the Chanel No. 5 bottle and the quilted jacket.
