When it comes to structured tailoring, Tim Hamilton reigns. First lauded for his approach to menswear, the designer launched his first women’s collection in March 2009, and now a year later, the line has continued to evolve, all the while still staying true to his emphasis on keen construction and form. "I respond to the idea of the uniform. It's protective and empowering," explained Hamilton. "It's a reflection of the times, but also an encouragement to make strong, smart decisions. To be prepared for anything and to be dressed for it." Hamilton looked to the work of 19th century French scientist and photographer, Étienne-Jules Marey, known for capturing movement. Hamilton’s Fall 2010 collection fuses masculine and feminine elements, playing with contrasts like light and soft versus hard, sheer versus heavy and technical versus artisanal, creating an effect that is both “architectural and sensual.”
